Calorie Count: SaffolaLife and Blogadda Initiative

There are many facts that can cause heart trouble or a heart attack at a young age. Although the number of cases wherein young females and males below the age of 25 suffer from a heart stroke are less, these figures are concerning.

Where it's staying active, eating better or being happy, all these factors contribute in some way or the other to the calories we gain and burn and hence I would like to share how I've managed to maintain a healthy life by calculating the calories (CC=calorie count) I lose and gain during a day.

Happiness (CC: 207 calories burnt)

1. In the morning, I wake up and leave for my laughter club session. This session helps my entire day to go well. We workout for 30 minutes and even walk about for 15 minutes, hence my calorie count is -87.

2. In the night, I practise yoga for 30 minutes and more than an activity, I view it as a way of letting my stress leave my body and just thinking about good memories that can bring a smile on my face. It helps me to stay positive and get good beauty sleep of 8 hours. During this activity, my calorie count reaches -120.

Diet (CC: 1067 calories gained; 65 calories burnt)

1. For breakfast, I consume a scrambled egg (38 calories).

3. My lunch diet contains chicken (250 calories), one bowl of rice (204 calories) and two bananas (89+89 = 178 calories). Hence, my calorie count is 632 calories.

4. My dinner diet contains half bowl of rice, fish (206 calories) and 1 banana again. It makes my calorie count 397.

5. During the day, I consume 5 cups of green tea which makes my calorie count 65-.

Activity (CC: 984 calories burnt)

1. I make breakfast for the entire family and as per the time I consume while preparing the breakfast, here is my calculation of calories. I spend 25 minutes preparing 3 cups of coffee, two cups of green tea, 2 scrambled eggs and 5 toasted breads. The calorie count is 20-.

1. Ironing my clothes makes my calorie count is 7- in 5 minutes. Packing my bag and leaving for office makes my calorie count 5-.

2. To reach the nearest bus stop, it takes me 10 minutes and hence my calorie count is 22-. Travelling and reaching my work place which takes an hour makes the count 27-.

3. I work constantly for 4 hours which makes my calorie count 352-.

4. Working for another 5 hours in the office, makes my calorie count 440- and travelling back home makes my calorie count -27.

5. Household tasks like walking, mopping (43 calories) and cleaning the dishes (34 calories) make my calorie count -84.

Hence on a regular day, I burn 189 calories and this is my method to keep my heart healthy. The main pointers I would like to highlight are: 30 minutes laughter exercise, 1 bowl of chiken or fish, 4-5 cups of green tea and 30 minutes of yoga. These factors play a very important role in your diet and health and help you remain healthy and fit. The websites that help me check on my calories are: http://calorielab.com and https://www.fourmilab.ch/hackdiet/e4/foodcalories.html

Tips to keep the heart healthy

With regards to working women or men, very few of us can spend time on ourselves and our health. The max we do is to eat healthy food but that's not enough. We need to have a balanced diet as well as take precautions in our day-to-day life and avoid doing things that can harm our health and most importantly our heart. It's recorded that people above 40 are prone to heart diseases and hence we need to follow some steps to keep our heart healthy...

It's recorded that people above 40 are prone to heart diseases and hence we need to follow some steps to keep our heart healthy...

Stay Active: Age doesn't matter; work matters

I've always believed in doing household work as it's a stress buster for me and plus it keeps me active and it's something I love doing. I work outside as well and on weekends, I spend time cleaning my house and making food for the entire family. Doing housework like chopping, cleaning and cooking helps to keep our muscles working and it's better for the heart too as it helps in burning calories. I work for atleast 3 hours daily to stay fit and listening to music while working motivates me a lot. Besides doing housework, I also practise yoga and breathing exercises to help me reduces my stress and keep my blood pressure level normal. This is the first step I take for a healthy heart and body.

Eat Better:

I buy mostly ORGANIC products whether it's olive oil, honey and even vegetables that may be expensive but it's for the good health of my family and hence the necessary nutrients that the body should get but they don't get due to the foods being contaminated is eliminated by my this step. It's better we only buy organic products and give our heart and body what's necessary for them. I also drink green tea daily that helps me burn calories. This is the second step I take for a healthy heart and body.

Being Happy: Laughing exercise

I am a member of a laughter club since 2 years and every morning at 6:30 a.m., the young and middle aged residents of our area get together and practise this laughter exercise for 30-45 minutes. This is the best exercise for me as I don't need to stress my muscles or lift weights to stay fit but just laughing can work wonders for me. Ever since I've started this, it has reduced my stress and I've also read that it raises the levels of good cholesterol. It's the best method we can ever follow for a healthy heart. This is the third step I take for a healthy heart and body.

I shared few tips that I follow to keep me and my heart healthy and these methods have been the simplest ones for me at my age.

WOW Entry: An empty train

Empty train - This thought itself feels so lonely and empty as I am used to travelling in trains where there are way too many people jammed inside one compartment that all people stand on each others foot and those who stand envy those who have seats, almost cursing them in their minds to get down. LOL!

Jokes apart, there have not been many experiences that I share in an empty train but if I had to, it would have been as follows:

It's midnight, about 12:30 a.m. and I've just reached the Marine Lines station. I get off the taxi and pay the driver while constantly looking at my watch. Yes, the pass is here and now I just need to rush to the 8th platform and get a train fast.

It will be empty definitely as there is nobody at the station as well. If it had been 5-6, I sure wouldn't have managed to get in the train and then getting off at Dadar would mean committing suicide, I tell myself and laugh.

"Mam, would you like to buy bhel?" A hawker asks me. "You are here at this time?" "Yes, mam. I get buyers at midnight too and hence stay here till 1:30." I smile and buy one packet and then hear the train's whistle. Finally, the train has arrived and as I had known, the train is empty. I smile at myself that today there is nobody to accompany me and it's just me in the entire compartment.

How this compartment used to be full of people talking, quarrelling and struggling for a seat! It's irritating when I am in such a mess but this empty compartment is really boring. I don't even want a seat now and that's the feeling.

The train leaves the station and I keep watching the surroundings and enjoy the fresh air that made me take out my shawl and cuddle myself. The journey that seemed boring and lonely earlier is now feeling bliss and peaceful. It makes me think that in our daily life, how many moments do we spend alone and not worry about our own troubles? None.

The train keeps moving and horning and the announcer goes on "Please report any unclaimed bags and..." I hear the announcement just to pass my time and move about the compartment to check the ads pasted there that were half torn and scribbled on but I did spend time in checking out each ad wherein people advertised their services like teaching, restaurants, property owners and some had ads of cosmetics. It's surprising for me as I have been travelling by trains for so many years but I never got a chance to go through these ads.

The train halts at a signal and as I finish reading the ads in the compartment, I start to think how scary it feels in the middle of nowhere. I keep praying that the train starts soon as it was already 12:45 a.m. and I need to reach home fast. I cannot afford to wait any longer. And due to fear of any con man entering the train, I bow my head so that nobody from outside can see that I am alone in the compartment.

Two minutes have passed by and the train finally starts moving and as I sit down back on the seat, I notice the dirt on the floor. Chocolate wrappers, food grains and left overs of all the people who have been in this compartment. Not only do I notice the dirt on the floor but also the seats have scratches all over and the window frames are too dusty and dirty.

I look back at my seat that had footprints on it and I get up and prefer to stand, instead of getting my dress marked with stains. "You don't feel me worthy to sit on, right? My state is really bad, I know." I turn back and wonder whose voice was that and notice it wasn't coming from a human but it was the seat that was trying to communicate with me.

I take few steps back and the voice continues "Do you have time to hear my story?" "Yes, of course" I say and the seat continues. "I wasn't like this before and it's just 5 years back when I was fixed into this compartment with covers on and I was spotlessly clean. I was happy to be a part of this train until on the first day I noticed 20-25 women running towards me and roughly sitting on me and hurting me. As time passed by, I started getting dirty with stains and scratches and people started treating me very badly. Everyone here used to compete for a seat but nobody took time to bother about my state. It's my duty to give comfort to people but unfortunately, nobody gave comfort to me. Some were nice to not put their shoes on me while some weren't. People came, they threw the waste wrappers and papers below me and some even spit on my hands which makes me feel very bad. Very rarely did I get cleaned and most of the time I had to bear the harshness of the weather too like rains, storms. I remain wet till the morning till the time the sunrays fall me on and dry the droplets. Within a month, I looked old and dirty and today it's been 5 years and I've already turned too old that you preferred to get up. Same is the case with my dear friends, the windows, the walls, the fans and the railings. All were new like me but now they all have turned old and dirty. I am not complaining but I never ever got to share my story with anyone as everybody seemed so busy in their life. Who would take time to hear my story then? It has become a routine for me now and when I don't see people on me, that's when I get tensed. I know you feel lonely over here but I share the exactly same feeling as you do. I have got so used to the voices of humans that I miss them a lot from 1:40 to 6 and now when you get down, I'll again feel lonely."

"I'm so sorry to hear your story. As we all keep thinking about ourselves and leave you all dirty but today I realized that it's you who suffer too." As I keep thinking about my loneliness, I today realize that the train too feels empty and lonely. "The next station is Dadar..." the announcer says and I listen to that and wish the compartment adieu as I get off the train with a smile and memories to take with me.

Learning about Personal Branding at #SMWMumbai

I am really grateful to Blogadda and Kavi for making me aware that we can personally brand ourselves and the tips shared during the Masterclass session was really informative and helpful.

Twitter Handle:

Kavi spoke about how a twitter handle can make us a brand and like I have my twitter handle, people who actually know me by that name and it will be my identity just like a brand has its identity.

How do we define ourselves:

Kavi explained how users can be categorized as Prisoners, Holiday, Experts or Explorers and how we can move from one stage to another with the help of personal branding. He gave us an example wherein he heard an individual for 3 hours by hearing a sessions on Youtube and this is the way we as brands express ourselves. He also taught us how we can be purposeful by blogging about one topic that we have chosen to represent ourselves by tweeting or using a hashtag that defines us. He also gave an example of an individual representing his brand by the color and using a particular color for all his work and it was the theme of his website. It made me understand that I can also do the same to choose one theme and just focus on that to get a better identity.

Platforms and their selection:

Kavi spoke about 5 different platforms and them being a part of our branding. Like I connect myself more to twitter than to facebook, I could choose my platform as Twitter and explore my ideas via tweets. It would help me as a brand and as an individual. The main stream of work should be chosen via our platforms.

1:9:90:

This was a very interesting formula given by Kavi wherein he explained how we can identify people as 90% who just consume, 9% who curate and collect information and 1% who create stuff and how we should identify ourselves as to be known better.

Markets are what people are:
Kavi explained how people buy from people and the market is what people are in reality and hence we should build a proposition for ourselves and let our work do the talking. We should also reimagine our work and not stick to rules.

Working out loud:

Kavi introduced this book "Working out loud" by John Stepper and how does this book help in personal branding. It was interesting for my to get to know about this book and it has been added to my reading list already.

Who?

At the end of the session, Kavi explained that we should recognize who are the people who connect with us and they are domain specific, people who we know, people who share and people who respond.

It was overall a great session on Personal Branding with Kavi and Blogadda.

It happened one morning - Flowers at the door

"Tring tring...Tring tring" The bell keeps ringing and the cat besides me keeps meowing and waking me up with its paws. I remove my eye mask and my blanket, wear my slippers in my night gown and walk towards the door.

I open the door slowly and notice the rings have stopped and on opening the door, nobody appears to be standing outside. "The bell was continuously ringing and now there's no one? Was it the kids just playing with the bell?" I was about to close the door when my eyes fell on a bouquet of flowers containing red roses, yellow lilies and white sunflowers wrapped neatly together on the floor.

My eyes glow up and a small smile trickles on my lips watching those beautiful flowers smelled so fresh and mesmerizing that I couldn't stop myself from adoring their fragrance and beauty. I bent down to hold it in my arms till a loud voice trembled near my ears "No...Don't touch them." I turned in the direction of the voice and noticed my sister rushing towards me with a fright and she held my hand and pulled me backwards.

"What happened Dee?" I ask with a stunned face and she looks at me saying "You don't know who has sent these flowers and you're bringing them inside the house? Don't do that."

"But why? They are just beautiful flowers." I say and she answers "Things that are beautiful can be equally dangerous too. You know to bring unknown flowers inside the house can be very risky. See, there seems to be no note on these flowers."

I look at the bouquet and take 2 steps behind saying "You mean that these flowers are dangerous?" "Yes, who knows that they can contain some dangerous chemicals to make us unconscious."

"Oh yes, like those goons who try to make the housemates unconscious and then rob the houses that was shown in Crime Patrol "Har jurm hone se pehle dastak deta hai"." I say in a frightened tone. My sister nods her head.

"Or they must be sent by a mysterious lover or secret admirer who must be a stalker since long and now sending flowers?" I almost tear up while saying this and my sister gets scared hearing this and says softly while he eyes tremble "Like Shahrukh Khan in the Darr movie? A crazy stalker?"

"Or may be there's a bomb in the flowers" We both turn behind and see our maid Sunita coming towards us from the kitchen. "Yes mam. The flowers may contain a bomb too. Like what they showed in CID yesterday." We all three turn to look at those flowers.

"A chemical, a stalker or a bomb. What could be there in this bouquet?" We keep asking ourselves and looking at each other and suddenly someone passes us and brings the bouquet inside the house. "Babloo." My sister screams as her 5-year-old toddler keeps the bouquet on the dining table.

"Oh mom, it's just a bouquet. What to get scared in this? A lover also can send this? Like aunt's boyfriend." Sunita and my sister turn towards me questioningly and I start blushing while feeling embarrassed and they too start smiling.

"Hmm...And you never told us about this boyfriend before?" My sister asks me and I smile and am about to reply when my nephew cuts me and says "Aunty was talking to her special friend yesterday and this is when I got to know about him." I look at him with anger.

My sister says "Interesting. So this special friend has sent this bouquet for you?" "No, no...He's lying. Shut up Babloo." I say in a rude tone and he starts giggling.

My sister picks up the bouquet and hands it over to me saying "Now check if it has a note." I feel embarrassed and check the bouquet. I get a note hidden inside and open it to read "Happy Birthday, My Love Reena."

"Reena?" We all three say in a chorus and the bell rings. We turn behind and find a courier boy walking towards us. "Sorry madam, this bouquet was to be delivered in the flat above and by mistake I delivered them here. Can you please return them?" I, my sister and the maid give the courier boy a blank look and I hand him over the flowers. My smile vanishes and I feel humiliated as he leaves the house and closes the door. Babloo starts laughing loudly and I frown and run inside my room.

I keep telling myself "First I was scared to even hold the bouquet and felt that it may contain a chemical or a bomb and when finally I felt it must have been a gift from my boyfriend, it turns out to belong to someone else. Urgg...This is such a bad feeling and so embarrassing too. Mile to bhi problem, na mile to bhi problem"

Married women are not attractive?

When a girl gets married, she is termed as less attractive and she loses her charm. This may sound odd but its true. There are many times that I've noticed married women are called AUNTY by children, teenagers and even elders and BHABHI by other males or from the same age group women and this happened to me as well when I was referred to as a SISTER and a GIRL before getting married but the names changed after I got married. It had become too much for me to handle at a time till I started wearing only saris or in some cases punjabi or salvar suits as I too found myself old and aged when I was in my late 20s. It happens with all married women and till they aren't married, they are considered as girls or women and after that as non-attractive aunties. Married women are considered as big sisters, aunts and so they need to look after their look more than unmarried woman especially because after pregnancy, there are hormonal changes which occur and woman put on a lot of weight. However, some women manage to look stunning even after their marriage as they look after their figure but still are not considered attractive as people look at them with respect and do not wish to remove the married factor from them. I don't say that we should not be respected but why are we tagged as unattractive women after marriage.

Same goes with celebrities as well who are married and their fan following reduces once they get married. Whether it's Aishwaria Rai, Kareena Kapoor or Rani Mukherjee, these three celebrities were considered as beautiful, size zero and hot before marriage while now all three are mummies or going to be mummies and hence are regarded as seniors in the Bollywood industry. They are just few years elder than the unmarried celebs in the industry but still this changes after they get married. They don't get roles like before.

This is a disturbing factor as for males, they always remain hot and desirable but there is a huge difference in the perspective when it comes to married women and I have never been able to decipher why this happens.

Shivaay Vs ADHM Controversy - Lost a Viewer's Trust

Recently, the Kamal R Khan (KRK( controversy appeared on all news channels and Twitter was full of digs taken at Ajay Devgan and Karan Johar due to the clash of two big budget movies Shivaay and Ae dil Hai Mushkil (ADHM).

This controversy started with KRK's review on ADHM and Shivaay wherein the Bollywood critic, actor and direction Kamal R Khan reviewed the trailers of both these movies that release on the same day (October 28, 2016). KRK went on to sing praises for ADHM but he criticized the movie Shivaay a lot which raised many eyebrows as people mostly liked Shivaay's trailer and it had received a positive response from many. After getting to know about the negative review, Kumar Mangat and Ajay Devgan were upset and they made a dummy call to KRK as Mangat is said to be a friend of KRK and he asked him about the negative review stating that they being friends, he shouldn't have been so negative about the film. KRK supported himself and said that since he received 25 lakhs for the review of ADHM from Karan Johar, he praised the movie. He did not agree that he was paid to bash Shivaay but it was assumed. This entire controversial tape was leaked by Ajay Devgan two days later and then there were news articles, KRK tweets, KRK's interview with Times Now and all sorts of controversies and explanations that followed.

After I read this news and heard the tape, I was not shocked as I know that people are paid for reviews of movies but this came out in the open which made it crystal clear that all reviews that movies receive from big brands and reviewers are mostly fake. It brought out the dark side of Bollywood again where everything is bought and sold behind the curtains and producers and directors can do anything to earn money and get their movie earn the maximum amount at the Box Office. It was nothing new to learn about but still it hurt me a lot as we people keep visiting theaters, paying our hard-earned money to get entertained for those 2.5-3 hours and many a times we get disappointed if the movie doesn't live up to our expectations. We do this as we check that a movie has got a positive review from popular reviewers who are considered trusted and then feel that the movie is worth watching. When I get to know that all the reviewers were paid and they simply trash movies that may turn out to be really good, it hurts a lot as at the end of the day, we feel our money is lost.

Bollywood is filled with way too many dark secrets which everytime prove that viewers are being cheated all the time and we are fooled to watch movies in theaters and not even get to watch an entertaining movie. When producers don't have faith in their own movies and pay criticis, what is the point of viewers trusting them and going to theaters to watch these movies? We watch the movies as we either like the actors, director or trust the movie or reviews but if these things happen and we feel cheated, our trust also fades. I respect Karan Johar a lot and he has delivered many good movies earlier and I don't know to what extent this news is true. However, bashing another movie so that one's own movie does well makes the competition look ugly in the end. Both the movies have spent a lot of money in making the movies but instead of keeping their movie in a buzz with such controversies, it would be so better to promote their movies in a better way. Such controversies leave a bad taste in the viewer's mind and we feel that everything is just fake in the end. It hurts our trust and we end up believing nothing which shouldn't be the case.

At the end, I just feel that makers today are concentrating more on creating controversies that delivering a good movie to entertain the audience which is really SAD. They may or may not have gained anything by this but they surely lost ONE viewer and that's ME.
