Shivaay Vs ADHM Controversy - Lost a Viewer's Trust

Recently, the Kamal R Khan (KRK( controversy appeared on all news channels and Twitter was full of digs taken at Ajay Devgan and Karan Johar due to the clash of two big budget movies Shivaay and Ae dil Hai Mushkil (ADHM).

This controversy started with KRK's review on ADHM and Shivaay wherein the Bollywood critic, actor and direction Kamal R Khan reviewed the trailers of both these movies that release on the same day (October 28, 2016). KRK went on to sing praises for ADHM but he criticized the movie Shivaay a lot which raised many eyebrows as people mostly liked Shivaay's trailer and it had received a positive response from many. After getting to know about the negative review, Kumar Mangat and Ajay Devgan were upset and they made a dummy call to KRK as Mangat is said to be a friend of KRK and he asked him about the negative review stating that they being friends, he shouldn't have been so negative about the film. KRK supported himself and said that since he received 25 lakhs for the review of ADHM from Karan Johar, he praised the movie. He did not agree that he was paid to bash Shivaay but it was assumed. This entire controversial tape was leaked by Ajay Devgan two days later and then there were news articles, KRK tweets, KRK's interview with Times Now and all sorts of controversies and explanations that followed.

After I read this news and heard the tape, I was not shocked as I know that people are paid for reviews of movies but this came out in the open which made it crystal clear that all reviews that movies receive from big brands and reviewers are mostly fake. It brought out the dark side of Bollywood again where everything is bought and sold behind the curtains and producers and directors can do anything to earn money and get their movie earn the maximum amount at the Box Office. It was nothing new to learn about but still it hurt me a lot as we people keep visiting theaters, paying our hard-earned money to get entertained for those 2.5-3 hours and many a times we get disappointed if the movie doesn't live up to our expectations. We do this as we check that a movie has got a positive review from popular reviewers who are considered trusted and then feel that the movie is worth watching. When I get to know that all the reviewers were paid and they simply trash movies that may turn out to be really good, it hurts a lot as at the end of the day, we feel our money is lost.

Bollywood is filled with way too many dark secrets which everytime prove that viewers are being cheated all the time and we are fooled to watch movies in theaters and not even get to watch an entertaining movie. When producers don't have faith in their own movies and pay criticis, what is the point of viewers trusting them and going to theaters to watch these movies? We watch the movies as we either like the actors, director or trust the movie or reviews but if these things happen and we feel cheated, our trust also fades. I respect Karan Johar a lot and he has delivered many good movies earlier and I don't know to what extent this news is true. However, bashing another movie so that one's own movie does well makes the competition look ugly in the end. Both the movies have spent a lot of money in making the movies but instead of keeping their movie in a buzz with such controversies, it would be so better to promote their movies in a better way. Such controversies leave a bad taste in the viewer's mind and we feel that everything is just fake in the end. It hurts our trust and we end up believing nothing which shouldn't be the case.

At the end, I just feel that makers today are concentrating more on creating controversies that delivering a good movie to entertain the audience which is really SAD. They may or may not have gained anything by this but they surely lost ONE viewer and that's ME.
